Barcelona is in our opinion, easily one of the worlds best cities. You will find great food, wine, art galleries, museums and street culture. The locals speak Catalan. Spanish, French and English is often heard. Most people who work in shops, restaurants, trains etc speak a bit off English. Almost everyone who visits the city falls in love with it. The are many international newspaper and fashion magazine articles extolling its virtues. Barcelona is a great place for clothes shopping, but you must watch out for the many pick pockets. Las Ramblas is great place to go shopping, have a beer/wine and eat out. The animal market is worth checking out.

Barcelona benefited greatly from the 1992 Olympics, as it focused the worlds attention on the city. It helped to transform the city with Billions of Euros of investment, Barcelona has become one of the most popular city break destinations in all of Europe, and the most popular city destination for the British. Antoni Gaudi's wonderful architecture demonstrates how long Barcelona has been at the fore front of all that is new and different.

Expect internaional prices to go with the cities international qualities. A decent hotel will probably set you back 130-150 euros per night. Although you can get accomodation a lot cheaper so please dont be put off. It is also worth travelling out of Barcelona if you are there for a while. Salou is 1 hour away by train and offers fine beaches, bars and night life. If you travel to falset(from both Barcelona and Salou) you can buy some of the best wine Spain and Catalunya has to offer.
