On arrival in Cornwall you could be mistaken into thinking you have landed back in time. Cornwall is the most South Western county in England and it is located next to Devon. The only City in Cornwall is Truro, which is also the administrative centre of the County. Many locals are of the opinion that the population of St Austell is bigger though.

The population of Cornwall is just over 500,000. Tourism forms a significant part of the counties economy. Cornwall is the poorest area in the UK, it also contributes least to the national economy. The average wage is £16000 per year and there is a big divide between the rich and the poor. Many local people cannot afford to buy their own homes, as city folk buying second holiday homes has pushed up the prices so much in recent years.

Cornwall is an excellent holiday destination though. It is a firm favourite with the British and it is common to see Dutch and French cars on the local roads. Wether you want Beaches, Nightclubs, Restaurants, the best surfing in Briton(Newquay), a few nights in a guest house in a fishing village(Mevagissey), horse riding holidays(Lands End), walking, sea fishing, art galleries, family holidays, stag parties, hen nights, sailing(Fowey) - Cornwall has enough diversity to keep everyone happy.

July, August and New Year are the peak times for tourists to visit Cornwall. You would be well advised to book in advance if you plan on visiting in this period. There are many options available to you, including campsites, caravan parks, bed and breakfast, guesthouses, hotels and holiday lets. The quality is generally high, but word of mouth is often the best recommendation a place can get. Prices for a B+B are generally £25-£30 per person per night for a clean room with a traditional English breakfast. As they say, money does not buy taste, so just because a place is expensive does not not mean it is better.

If you are a first time visitor to Cornwall. We would suggest Tintagel Castle, The Eden Project, Newquay, Mevagissey Harbour, St Ives, Fowey and Lands End as good places to spend the day. They all offer something for young and old folk alike and will keep the children happy too. Overall, Cornwall is a place not to be missed if you are planning a visit to the UK. The Cornish people are among the friendliest in the country. If you are a resident of the UK, you have no excuse for not visiting Cornwall.
