Kyoto in Japan can boast 17 UNESCO World Heritage Sites. Kyoto has a population of approx 1.4 million and is a great base for exploring Nara, Osaka & Kobe. Kyoto has 1000's of serene temples, gardens, shrines and some very nice castles and palaces. It is also a great place for food and shopping. Kyoto is served by an excellent transport network. A variety of excursion and discount tickets for travel within the city are available. Kyoto encourages visitors to make full use of public transport facilities. As traveling by public transport instead of private car is beneficial in cutting global warming.
