Rome is an excellent tourist destination and should not be missed. It is hard to guess what you will like most about the City - the opulence of the Vatican, the grandness of the Forum, the excellent food, the Italian wine, the Colosseum, the clothes shops......the list goes on. Accomadation is easy to find from slums to five star.

The main tourist season starts at Easter and runs until October, so maybe ring ahead if you have kids with you. In summer there are numerous outdoor festivals and concerts and a less-crowded city centre, which makes summer almost worth the heat. If you do visit in summer, try to see the sights early to avoid queues, take a long lunch and then sleep. The evening session should start around 18:00 to take advantage of the cooler evening. If you hate tourists go around chrismas time.
